ER traveled from Hyde Park to New York City at 3 p.m., where she had an engagement at 7 p.m. and then dinner with Henry Morgenthau III at 8 p.m.
In the morning, ER was expecting her former sister-in-law Margaret Richardson and niece Ellie Wotkyns to visit. Ellie was to stay with ER until January 8. ER noted in her planner that David Gurewitsch and Dorothy Thompson both returned to New York City that morning. At 11 a.m., ER expected to "Go in" for a short NAACP meeting before lunch at home at 1 p.m. From 3-4:30 p.m. ER had an AAUN nominating committee meeting, then tea at 5 p.m.
At 10 a.m. ER had an AAUN committee meeting. At 1 p.m., she had a lunch scheduled at Park Lane Hotel, and later tea with "Mrs. Thompson" and Jim Simsarian. Written in the "evening" portion of the planner is a note that ER is providing two tickets for her niece Ellie, along with a list of names, but no indication of what show they were attending.
ER had a hair and nails appointment before a 1 p.m. lunch at the Waldorf Hotel. At 3:30 p.m., ER expected to be driven from her New York apartment to her engagement from 4-5 p.m. at "Henry Street" (possibly Henry Street Settlement). By 5:45 p.m., ER expected to be at a hotel at 405 48th St, possibly for a Democratic group meeting. Her final meeting of the day was a Citizenship Committee for Children meeting at 8:15. At 10 a.m., ER met with Dr. Milan Kuna before another meeting at 11:45 a.m. Lunch was at 12:45 p.m. with Dorothy Thompson before a 2-5 p.m. AAUN board meeting. At 6 p.m., David Gurewitsch and his daughter Grania were to arrive, presumably to see a play with ER, the Lash family, Ellie Wotkyns, and one of Ellie's guests. They were to arrive at the theater to claim their tickets at 7:15 p.m.
Between 4-6 p.m., ER attended a tea with a women's newspaper club and then a cocktail party. She hosted dinner at 7:45 p.m. and her planner includes list of approximately 12 guests.
Ellie Wotkyns departed, as ER was preparing to leave on a trip. ER's driver, Tubby Curnan, brought "Helen" to New York City before ER left for Idlewild Airport at 11 a.m. ER traveled to Seattle in advance of a lecture the following day in Mount Vernon. ER continued on to Bellingham from Seattle, where she stayed after speaking in Mount Vernon. She was scheduled to speak for the Skagit County American Association of University Women at the local Mount Vernon Community College. Full itinterary

A weather delay caused ER to arrive in Los Angeles late, but she still manged to arrive at the home of her friend with enough time for dinner and a press interview before speaking at Hollywood Temple Beth El. Full itinterary
ER had personal plans during the morning, such as breakfast with friends and an appointment to have her hair and nails done, before she traveled to Sacramento to speak for the local AAUN chapter. Full itinterary
ER and her assistant Maureen Corr split up for the day for them both to take personal trips. ER traveled to see friends and family in the Los Angeles area and ended the day with a dinner and a show at the Ambassador Hotel with her host and friend, Meyris Cheney Martin. Full itinterary

ER arrived in Dallas and had an informal press conference at the airport. Maureen Corr, traveling separately, returned to New York. ER attended a short meeting of Democratic women's groups, followed by a formal press conference later. A reception scheduled for before ER's dinner was canceled to allow ER to rest. ER traveled by train to Philadelphia for the day to speak at the 250th anniversary of Benjamin Franklin's birthday, where she received a medal. While there, she briefly met with the Women's Group of the American Jewish Congress before a lunch ceremony. When she returned to New York later in the evening she had dinner with Charlotte Heidelberger.
At 5 p.m., Henry Morganthau III came for tea. In the evening, ER had dinner with David Gurewitsch.
ER had a meeting at 10 a.m. before being scheduled to have lunch with Lakshmi Pandit at 1 p.m. along with Pandit's guests. From 2-3 p.m., ER had a dentist appointment, and then spent time in her AAUN office speaking with young students. ER continued to have a busy evening with tea at 5 p.m., a meeting at 7:15 p.m., and another appointment at 8 p.m.
ER saw Henry Morganthau III at 9 a.m.. Her 10:30 meeting with the Mayor was canceled due to the settlement of the Westinghouse strike. ER followed this with lunch with Frank Harting, Leonard Bernstein, and Joseph Schildkraut (and their wives). She had an appointment for tea at p.m., and a dinner with Mary Lasker at 8 p.m. at home.
ER was available for pictures at the Mother's March on Polio, which she also mentions in her MD column. After pictures, ER traveled to Newark and stayed between 10:30-4:30 p.m. ER expected to be "home" by 4:30 p.m. and had two guests for tea at 5 p.m. In the evening, she expected to see David Gurewitsch.
ER had lunch at 1 p.m. with Henry Morganthau III, 3 members of the Lash family, a "Mrs. Cucolo," and another guest before catching a plane to Houston at 4:15 p.m. from Idlewild.
In Houston, ER held a press conference before she attended a workshop with the local chapter leaders of the AAUN for the first half of the day. Afterwards, she traveled to Lubbock. ER also wrote to her niece, Ellie Wotkyns, to arrange a visit with her in New York where they would have lunches and see a play around ER's busy schedule.
ER held another press conference in the morning before attending a series of seminars concerning women in business and politics. After a luncheon, she continued attending workshops organized by the AAUN, ending the day by speaking at a high school. ER traveled to the airport afterwards to fly to Albuquerque, a flight which was delayed.
ER held the third press conference of this trip before attending a workshop with leaders of various organizations. In the afternoon she held multiple media interviews.Iin the evening, ER lectured at the University of New Mexico.
ER arrived in Phoenix and spoke before a joint meeting of the state legislature late that morning. The local chapter of the AAUN hosted a luncheon following this joint session and another AAUN workshop after the luncheon. In the evening, ER attended a meeting at Phoenix Union High School.
ER used her time in Santa Fe to visit friends. In the evening she boarded a plane to return to New York.
ER had a hair and nails appointment at 11 a.m. before a 1 p.m. meeting with Harry Hooker and others. At 2:30 p.m., ER was attending either a play or other ticketed event with Trude Lash. In the evening, ER had dinner with David Gurewitsch and they attended a concert together.
ER's first noted appointment of the day is with the "Lash's" at 1 p.m., but there are no further details. An appointment from 4:30-5:30 p.m. was canceled and erased from the planner. She dined at 6. At 7:40 p.m. Judge Hubert Delany was to pick up ER and accompany her to an 8 p.m. service at St. Thomas Church, where she was to be the first lay-person to speak at a service.
ER spent the day at Hyde Park in remembrance of her husband's birthday while various organizations and people laid wreaths on his grave, as was tradition. The MD dated to Feb. 2 indicates that fourteen people were present for lunch before ER returned to New York City for an AAUN executive committee meeting at 5 p.m. In the evening, ER may have attended a party.
ER visited Public School 87 in Queens to speak to older elementary school students about the AAUN. She expected to either leave Grand Central Station at 12 p.m. and arrive in Springfield, Massachusetts at 3:03 p.m. before meeting with students at 5:15 p.m. A dinner was arranged for her at 6 p.m. and she spoke to students again in the evening.
